Paige Ryan as the Woman From Planet Zero. Joel Helms as Captain Drake and Blair Stephenson as Lt. McElroy. Performance at the TEMPORAL DISTURBANCE convention.

"Woman from Planet Zero" is a satirical one-act written for my friends Jeff and Nettie Roe, to be performed at their sci-fi convention TEMPORAL DISTURBANCE. Thanks to some delightful performances from Paige Ryan, Joel Helms, and Blair Stephenson, the play was the unequalled hit of the entire weekend.

The Basic Idea

It's a lighthearted spoof of 1950's films such as "Twelve to the Moon," "Rocketship X-M," "King Dinosaur," "Fire Maidens of Outer Space," and about a zillion others. There's even the occasional affectionate nod at first-class films such as "Forbidden Planet." Underneath the comedy, it's also a comment on how far we've come -- or haven't -- as a society since the chilliest days of the Cold War.

Synopsis

The USAF Arrogance is headed for Venus when it is suddenly forced off-course by an unexpected meteor shower. Rock-jawed Commander Drake and painfully ignorant Lieutenant McElroy find themselves in orbit around a mysterious tenth planet -- which is shooting missiles at them! In moments, the two Earthmen find themselves face-to-face with a representative of this new planet: a beautiful woman named Veena, who promises her world will now invade the Earth and easily dominate its men. The only hope for continued human supremacy in the Solar System is the raw masculinity of Captain Drake ... but will it be effective on an alien female?
